The Inspiration

In 1998, Shri Shri Shri Shivabalayogi Maharaj or fondly known to his devotees as Swamiji, sent two of His devotees, Faith and Ken, to meet Brother Haridas Suppiah and his wife at the Shenbagavalli Ashram in Malaysia. Faith and Ken presented the couple with the Tapas Shakti – a book entailing Swamiji’s biography, the purpose of Swamiji’s mission, Swamiji’s answers to a wide range of questions from devotees as well as devotees’ experiences with Swamiji.

Instantly inspired by Swamiji’s book and teachings, Brother Haridas started following the practices and teachings of Swamiji. Swamiji’s simple teachings on universal peace and self –realization through meditation attracted a handful of people and a small group was formed. The number of devotees grew gradually with the introduction of meditation techniques and the singing of devaghanam at temples.

In September 2000, the first Maha Agnihotra for universal peace was conducted in Brother Haridas’ residence at Bandar Sungai Long, Cheras. Maha Agnihotras continued to be conducted at devotees' residence as well as temples across Malaysia. The divine singing of devaghanams and the prayers for universal peace attracted more people and slowly, the group in Malaysia grew.

Love at First Sight

In May 2001, Swamiji’s lineage holder, Shri Shiva Rudra Balayogi Maharaj, lovingly known as Babaji, visited a devotee’s residence in Singapore. Recognising this rare opportunity to meet a self-realised Yogi and a direct disciple of Swamiji, Brother Haridas and his family, together with a small group of devotees immediately travelled to Singapore to meet Babaji.

It was love at first!

The devotees sought Babaji’s blessings and invited Babaji to come to Malaysia. The following week, Babaji stepped on the soil of Malaysia for the very first time. Babaji visited the residence of Brother Haridas in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, where He blessed all Malaysian devotees who had gathered there to meet him.

The love and bond that formed on that auspicious day in 2001 between Guru and devotee, set the foundation for a whole new spiritual journey of the Mission in Malaysia.

The Mission in Malaysia

With the blessings and guidance of Swamiji and Babaji, the mission in Malaysia, under the leadership of Brother Haridas Suppiah, set forth to spread the teachings and meditation technique (Jangama Dhyana) of Swamiji.

Maha Agnihotras and the singing of devaghanam continued to be conducted at temples in and around the Klang Valley as well as in other parts of Malaysia including Ipoh, Kampar, Slim River, Penang, Seremban, Setiawan and Kluang. Monthly pournami poojas were also held at devotees’ homes initially, and subsequently at the Rawang Centre.

As the group grew steadily, weekly meditation sessions were held at the Rawang Centre for devotees to come to learn and practise Swamiji’s Jangama Dhyana. In the spirit of Swamiji’s life purpose to spread peace through meditation, without any discrimination of status, race or religion, the Jangama Dhyana technique was taught to all who came to the mission and wished to learn earnestly.

In 2004, Babaji started His World Tour program, visiting several countries, including Malaysia. Public programs were organized in temple halls in several towns and states in Malaysia. Babaji’s satsangs and simple yet profound teachings on meditation and self-mastery endeared Him to all his devotees.

The mission in Malaysia also diligently took time and effort to assist and organize Babaji’s visits to parts of India and Indonesia on a yearly basis to spread the teachings of Swamiji. Annual trips were made to Swamiji’s birthplace in Adivarapupeta and to Devarayasamudram in Bangalore to celebrate Mahashivarathri, to Bangalore to celebrate  Swamiji’s Tapas Poorthi in August, to Dehradun in September to celebrate Babaji’s birthday and to Bali in December to organize Babaji’s public programmes in Denpasar and Singgarajah.

The love and dedication to both Swamiji and Babaji and the sincere effort to selflessly serve others for their spiritual betterment, inspired the devotees in Malaysia to work towards registering the Mission. On 23 November 2007, The Shivabala Shivarudrabalayogi Universal Peace Mission Malaysia was officially registered.

The Malaysian Mission has come a long way. From a handful of 50 devotees, the mission is now 300 devotees strong and growing. New devotees are continuously attracted to Swamiji’s teachings on spirituality as taught by Babaji through Babaji’s books, online satsangs, online meditation sessions and meditation and bhajan CDs.

The Malaysian Mission has spread to various parts of the country and devotees are ardently spreading the teachings of Swamiji amongst their own family members and friends.  In 2018, the first branch of the Mission in Ipoh was officially registered. The Malaysian Mission also has centres / groups in Sitiawan, Kluang and Penang.

Babaji’s spirit continues to inspire the Malaysian devotees to remain steadfast and dedicated to the teachings of Swamiji and to continue to serve Swamiji’s Mission.
