The word Guru is derived from two words, “gu” and “ru”. The Sanskrit root “gu” means darkness or ignorance, and “ru” denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore, a Guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. A Guru is a very necessary part of our life. On this auspicious day of Guru Purnima, devotees worship and pay respect to their Guru by thanking their Gurus for being the “Light” in their life.
In Malaysia, Guru Purnima was celebrated at the main centre in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang on 9th July 2017. About 250 devotees, including devotees from the centres in Ipoh, Setiawan, Kluang and Kulim attended the prayers. The prayers started at 10 am with a Maha Agnihotra performed for our Gurus. This was followed by pooja, darshan, bhajans and annadhanam.
The Guru Purnima prayers ended around 5 pm. It was a beautiful and truly divine celebration and all who attended the auspicious prayers went back with a full and contented heart.
